Innov-Elections Coaching Trainings moving forward!
ECES is proud of the fact that its Innov-Elections Coaching Trainings are bearing fruit along the way!
Our Senior Experts & Trainers are currently providing their expertise and facilitating the exchange of good practices for more than 300 participants from Angola, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of Congo, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zanzibar and Zimbabwe. These countries are members of the Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC countries (ECF-SADC), an independent organization, in which each country in the SADC region is represented by its Electoral Management Body.
The first series of Coaching Trainings implemented in February involved the participation of representatives of the East African Community (EAC) from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania, as well as the Members of Parliament of the EAC Legislative Assembly (EALA).
These trainings are implemented under the Innov-Elections project, which is financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Innov-Elections was developed by ECES and Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies of Pisa (SSSA) and is being implemented with the support of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
The Coaching Training Sessions for ECF-SADC, elaborated and delivered by ECES in 3 different languages (English, French and Portuguese), each week from the end of March to early June, cover the following key aspects of each phase of the electoral cycle:
- Media Monitoring;

- Domestic Electoral Observation, Accreditation and Parallel Vote Tabulation;
- Results Transmission, Aggregation and Proclamation;
- Evaluation and Audit of Electoral Processes;

- Results Transmission, Aggregation and Proclamation.
ECES Founder and Executive Director, Fabio Bargiacchi, has expressed his gratitude for “the interest and participation showed by the high-level personnel of the Electoral Management Bodies of the SADC countries in ECES Coaching Trainings. They represent a unique occasion for mutual learning and exchange of experiences in the field of elections. At ECES we look forward to strengthening this collaboration.”
During the training on Security of Elections, Verdonck TSHIYA, Deputy CEO of the Independent National Electoral Commission of Democratic Republic of the Congo (CENI-DRC), has commented:
"I would first like to thank ECES for this opportunity for training and capacity building as well as for these exchanges. It is also an opportunity to congratulate my colleagues for their performance throughout the two days of training, which also shows the electoral expertise that the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has (…) With these exchanges, especially those concerning electoral security, it will further sharpen the prerequisites that each of us has in terms of expertise and electoral organization to better build and advance in the electoral process’’.
